Nothing really drew me to this movie other than LEGO
It’s HappeningWritten by Pharrell Williams and Shelly BergPerformed by Pharrell Williams Courtesy of Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment. 6.6/10 (Recommended but not in theaters) This is mostly a family friendly movie because it’s a LEGO movie, but in reality it’s definitely not geared towards families. I like Pharrell Williams' music, but not someone I’m dying to hear or see. I love the style he decided to take in telling his life story. As The LEGO Movie, you can create anything you want with anything you can imagine, but despite the shiny pieces and catchy tunes that some of us would recognize, it still falls flat.
So I learned something
I don’t think this biopic is a “woah it’s me”; the story despite the rags to riches perspective, but the way things are told you don’t really get to feel the hardships Pharrell went through to make it big. The movie is not a total waste of time. I never realized how big Pharrell was on music. Creating music for artists like Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake to name a few. I would definitely watch this movie once, but I wouldn’t see it in theaters if I could go back.
it is big
Overall, it’s a 90-minute surface story that only provides a small amount of information about the road Pharrell will take. It definitely has a "go after what you want" subplot, but you also have to work hard. It’s a brilliant film that uses LEGO, but never really hits the emotional chord. I wouldn’t recommend seeing in theaters or as a family (unless you like the musical genre). There’s only one swear word in the movie, but for the most part it sounds, except maybe three times.
That’s how it is for now
Ultimately, though, you can’t deny Pharrell’s impact. He’s had a hand in some of the biggest songs I’ve heard, but he’d never tie it down. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Happy viewing and enjoy the show!
